Water Asset Management InternationalInstructions for authorsBasic requirements IWA Publishing is seeking papers on asset management in water / wastewater utilities for publication in its international newsletter on this subject. Papers should have either a strategic / management focus or be based on significant case studies. In either case the papers should be of likely interest to an international audience. Papers should be of 1500-3000 words, and should be written such that technical aspects are presented so as to be accessible to the general asset management community. What you should do first Initially you should submit a synopsis of your proposed article to one of the newsletter editors or to IWA Publishing. An editor will then contact you regarding the full paper. Who should you contact about submitting a paper?
IWA Publishing: What will happen next? An editor will let you know whether or not to proceed with submitting a paper. The paper should be prepared according to the details below and sent to the editor. The editor will then decide whether the paper should be published and may recommend alterations. If the paper is selected for publication, you will not be required to check proofs prior to publication. Submitting your paper to the editor The preferred approach for submitting a paper is to supply it to an editor by email and as a Word file. Figures and images should be placed after the text. The author should simply indicate the approximate place in the text where any figures or images should appear. NOTE: if the paper is accepted for publication, figures and images will then need to be supplied as separate files (see 'Submitting your accepted paper for publication' below). Submitting your accepted paper for publication
The preferred approach for submitting an accepted paper is to supply it by email to IWA Publishing (contact details above). Where necessary, material can be posted (e.g. for submitting images on CD) to IWA Publishing (address below). Text should be supplied electronically, preferably as Word files. Figures and images should be supplied as separate files (see 'Presentation of artwork' below). Layout will be carried out by the publisher. The author should simply indicate the approximate place in the text where any figures or images should appear. Presentation of figures, diagrams & images * Please do not supply embedded graphics in your text documents. They should be supplied as separate files. * Do not supply low resolution graphics (see Image formats below). * Try to ensure that lettering used on any artwork is consistent in size. As a general rule, final text size should not fall below 8pt. * Label any disks clearly with your name and the paper title. Image formats The following are our preferred options. We can usually deal with most other formats, although quality may become an issue. Supply of electronic files Where possible, all images should be provided as electronic graphics files, preferably as good quality jpg files (for use at 300dpi). Line figures (line drawings, charts, graphs, etc): * Supply as black & white / greyscale images. * Keep shading and tints to a minimum. * If necessary, supply as Word files, which will be scanned. Photographs / diagrams * Supply as electronic graphics files, as described above. If in doubt, please contact us to discuss your concerns. References Use of references should be kept to a minimum. Where they need to be included, the following instructions apply. * Citation of references in the text should be name and date, eg, 'Smith and Jones (1998) examine...; * Where there are 3 or more authors you may use eg, Peters et al. (1997) in the text but must use the full list of names in the reference list. Example journal article reference: Asano, T., Maeda, M. and Takaki, M. Copyright and artwork permissions * On acceptance of your paper, you will be sent a copy of IWA Publishing's standard Copyright Assignment Form. This form is issued to all contributors to IWA's journals, and must be completed and returned before publication. * It is your responsibility to obtain permission to use other peoples' material in your work, whether artwork, tables or text. * You must acknowledge all illustrations which have been previously published. A standard Permission Request Form can be obtained from IWA Publishing and you should include all completed permissions correspondence when you send in your manuscript. * Please contact IWA Publishing if in any doubt.
